a layer on top
A watermark here is one transparent layer drawn over each page — your text, at the size, colour, angle and opacity you choose, either once in a corner or repeated across the whole sheet. Everything underneath is left exactly as it was: the text of the document stays selectable and searchable, links still work, bookmarks survive, and the file grows by a few kilobytes rather than being rebuilt.
The text is drawn with the fonts already in your browser, which is why it accepts any language rather than the handful of Latin characters most PDF libraries allow. That layer is a picture, so the word DRAFT itself will not be searchable — which is usually the point. The preview shows page one exactly as it will be saved, so you can settle the opacity before committing to a hundred pages.
three steps
It is opened in your browser with the same engine that draws our PDF previews. Nothing is uploaded, so a contract or an unpublished report stays on your machine.
Set the size, colour, angle and opacity. Pick one of the nine positions for a single stamp, or turn on repeating to tile the text across the sheet — the classic diagonal DRAFT wall. The preview follows every change.
The same watermark is applied to every page, matched to each page's own size and rotation, and downloaded as a new file. Your original is never modified.
quick answers
Yes. The page content is left untouched — the watermark is drawn over it as a separate layer, so you can still select, search and copy the text underneath, and links and bookmarks keep working.
Yes. The text is drawn with the fonts your browser already has, so any script your system can display will appear in the watermark. Most PDF tools can only stamp Latin characters, because they use the standard PDF fonts.
It can, with effort — that is true of every visible watermark in every tool. This one is a picture layered over the page, so someone determined can strip it in an editor. Treat it as a clear signal of intent, not as protection.
Not here — the stamp goes on every page. If you need it on a few, pull those pages out with Extract PDF Pages, watermark them, and put the document back together with Merge PDF.
Each page is measured on its own, including the rotation stored in the file, so a scanned page saved sideways gets a watermark the right way up rather than one lying on its side.
It is always drawn on top, which is what makes it visible on scanned pages where the whole sheet is an image. Lower the opacity if it competes with the content — around a third is usually enough to read through.
Barely. The watermark is rendered once per page size and reused, so a hundred identical pages share a single small image rather than carrying a hundred copies of it.
No. Encrypted files cannot be opened here. Remove the password in the application that made the file or in your PDF reader, then run the unlocked copy through this tool.
No. The file is read, stamped and rebuilt inside your browser, and the result goes straight to your downloads. There is no server in this tool to send a document to.
