the text is the meme

Big, outlined, and never cut off

The look everyone recognises is one font at one weight: heavy condensed capitals in white with a black outline, running edge to edge. It survives being reposted, screenshotted and re-compressed, which is exactly what happens to a meme. The outline is the load-bearing part — without it, white text vanishes the moment it crosses a bright patch of the picture.

The thing that actually breaks memes made in image editors is text that runs off the canvas. Here the size you set is a share of the picture height, not a pixel value, and the line is then wrapped and shrunk until it fits inside that band. A long sentence becomes two or three lines instead of disappearing past the edge, and the same setting looks right whether the image is 500 or 4000 pixels wide.

three steps

How to make a meme

01

Drop an image in

PNG, JPG, WebP or a GIF frame. It is decoded in the page and never uploaded.

02

Type the lines

Top, bottom, or just one. Text is fitted and wrapped as you type; drag the size slider if you want it louder or quieter.

03

Download

PNG keeps the letter edges crisp, JPEG is smaller. No watermark is added either way.

quick answers

Meme generator FAQ

Is there a watermark?

No. Nothing is added to the image beyond the text you type. The file is built in your browser, so there is no service to brand it.

What font is used?

Impact where your device has it — which covers most Windows and macOS machines — and a self-hosted condensed face everywhere else. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai fall through to a font that actually has those glyphs, so the text renders instead of turning into boxes.

Why does my long caption get smaller?

Because it is being made to fit. The size you choose is the height of the text band; a caption too long for one line is wrapped, and if the wrapped block is still too tall the type shrinks until it fits. That is deliberate — text running off the edge is the most common way a homemade meme goes wrong.

What is the caption bar layout?

It puts the top line as black text on a white strip above the picture, instead of over it. It reads better on busy or light images, and it is the style most often used for screenshots and reaction pictures.

Can I use it on a GIF?

You can drop one in, but only the first frame is used and the result is a still image. Animated captioning is a different job than this tool does.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. The image is decoded, drawn and re-encoded in your browser. It never leaves your device, so nothing is stored, and there is no queue.
