What is an SVG file?

SVG is a vector image format written in plain XML text. Because shapes are described by coordinates rather than pixels, an SVG stays sharp at any size — ideal for logos, icons and illustrations.

Why optimize SVG?

Files exported from design apps carry editor metadata, unused definitions and over-precise coordinates. Optimizing strips all of that and often halves the file size without changing how the image looks.

SVG or PNG?

Use SVG for flat graphics that must scale — logos, icons, charts. Use PNG for photos, or wherever SVG is not supported, such as older email clients and some marketplace uploads.
