1080 × 1920
A story fills the phone: 1080 × 1920, a 9:16 rectangle matching the shape of the screen it will be shown on. That is the easy part. The part that catches people is that the app draws its own furniture on top — the account name and progress bars along the top, the reply box, caption and action buttons along the bottom. Roughly the top and bottom eighth of your image sit underneath all that.
So the working area is the middle, not the whole rectangle. Crop to the full 9:16 so nothing is letterboxed or stretched, then keep faces, text and logos inside the central band. The same file works for a reel cover, which is why this size is worth exporting once and reusing rather than letting the app scale whatever you happened to have.
three steps
PNG, JPG or WebP. It is decoded in the page — nothing is uploaded, so nothing waits on a connection.
The crop box is already locked to the 9:16 shape. Drag it over the part that matters and resize it from any corner; the pixel size is shown as you go.
The export is exactly 1080 × 1920. Keep anything that must be read inside the middle band, clear of the interface at both ends.
quick answers
1080 × 1920 pixels, a 9:16 ratio — the same shape as a phone screen. That is what this page exports, and it applies to reels and to most other vertical short-video formats too.
Because the interface overlays the top and bottom of the image. Keep anything that has to be read within the middle portion; treat the outer eighths as bleed.
A 9:16 crop of a horizontal photo keeps only a narrow vertical slice. Often it is better to put the photo on a coloured background at the story size rather than crop into it that hard.
No. The crop and the resize happen in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
